PRESIDENT’s MESSAGE

Alan and Judi are on their long overseas holiday so I am acting President. Brian and I are recuperating from a very bad head cold/bronchitis that we have had.  There are a lot of meetings and other information to catch up on in the body of the newsletter.

Project Updates

Cambodia Hospital Project         HFM staff assisted with pick up of equipment this week, including 20 beds and 4 theater lights. The static container is now full and ready to be packed. Please let Pip know if you’re available to assist on Saturday 19th August at the Goldstar offices from 9 am – 11 am
 
Sangora Foundation Project David Nash and Rory Balfe (Medical Technology specialists) are going Cambodia in September/October to assist with the training of staff and checking of equipment that has been donated.
 
Vincent’s Project             I am sure you will remember that young Vincent Pettinicchio who we supported last year was aiming to donate $1500 swags to homeless people.  He achieved a total of 1720. An outstanding effort.
 
Rotary in  Western  Australia Make FASD History Project              The inaugural meeting of the  clubs  who are on the management  committee  for this  projects was held  last Monday.  We have agreed the Terms of Reference, the procedures for accessing grants, corporate, philanthropic and global grants.  Dawn and Bruce will be going to Kalgoorlie in September to continue the discussion in this area.

DISTRICT NEWS

Australian Rotary Health will have its inaugural Australian Rotary Health Lift the Lid lecture – Mental Health and Our Kids – on Wednesday 13 September. 6 pm UWA club.
 
The lecture is followed by a cocktail event with food and refreshments.
 
We ask you to join us to show Rotary’s support for its research organisation. Invited guests include people from the corporate sector, the medical profession, academics and researchers and medical students.
 
Rotary Means Business                 Inaugural meeting on Tuesday 12th September 4.30 pm at Subiaco Hotel Stellar Lounge (upstairs).  Only open to Rotary members
 
In order to participate after the inaugural meeting Rotarians will need to be a members of the network group. The cost is US $10
