Ukrainian Christmas Party
4th January 2025
The Rotary Clubs of Osborne Park and Karrinyup once again held a Christmas party for the displaced Ukrainian community in Perth at the Colin Moore Community Centre on Sunday 4th January 2025.
We were able to get 2 priests to come along and bless the event and the audience as well as praying for the end to the war in Ukraine. The priests also organised a wonderful Christmas pageant performed by the kids who were all dressed in their national costumes.
The pantomime was followed by a wonderful performance from the Ukrainian choir also dressed in spectacular national costumes with beautiful embroidery. The highlight for the non-Ukrainian spectators was definitely the singing of Jingle Bells in Ukrainian.
The Rotary members provided BBQ sausages, hot dogs and a range of salads and the Ukrainian community brought Ukrainian desserts and treats. There was far more food than was needed but many of the community took take-away containers of sausages and salads home with them.
Our wonderful master of ceremonies, Sergei, arranged lots of games in the Lake Gwelup Reserve for the kids to run around chasing balls, doing egg and spoon races and generally working off any excess energy. We also had a lovely team of ladies doing face painting.
And then it was time for St Nicholas to do his thing! From the Trybooking site we were able to identify the sex and ages of all of the children attending. This enabled our gifting team to select Christmas presents for each child depending on their age and sex with each present labelled with the child’s name so that St Nicholas could deliver the presents in an orderly manner. The children’s smiles when they got their presents made the extra effort worthwhile.
